The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of two more suspects involved in a recent shooting in Gweru on March 19, 2026.
The suspects, identified as Solomon Wisdom Tariro, 28, and Samuel Munyunguma, 55, are linked to the case surrounding the tragic death of Valentine Mutasa, 34, who died after a violent confrontation with police.
In a statement referencing an earlier post on X, the police said the arrests were made possible by a tip from detectives in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Homicide Division.
Based on this crucial information, officers traced the suspects to a service station in Claremount, Gweru. During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly engaged in a shootout with police, resulting in injuries to both Solomon Tariro and Valentine Mutasa. Sadly, Valentine died from his injuries shortly after reaching the hospital.
“All suspects connected to the murder of Joseph Mutangadura have been accounted for,” said Paul Nyathi, Commissioner and Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations at ZRP.
“The cooperation of the public has been invaluable in these arrests, and we urge our citizens to continue helping in the fight against crime.”
During the operation, authorities recovered a 9mm Canik pistol with two live rounds and an Ekol 9mm blank pistol with two blank cartridges.
Investigations revealed that the recovered Canik pistol had been stolen in Mberengwa in September 2025.
Additionally, Samuel Munyunguma is reported to have links to two armed robbery cases in Zvishavane and Mberengwa.
The police’s quick response shows their dedication to tackling violent crime and ensuring public safety. The ZRPThanks the community for their support and encourages ongoing cooperation.
