Zimbabwe Prisons Correctional Services (ZPCS) recently conducted Officer in Charge Sports Gala (OCSG) at Cecil John Rhodes Primary School in preparation for the Officer in charge sports zonal tournament which will be held sometime next month.
The OCSG will witness officers from Zone 2 in the province which includes Whawha Medium, Whahwa Young offenders as well as Whawha Community members participating.
Speaking at this event ZPCS Chief Correctional Officer, Farai Memory Mutonhori said that she feels honored to be part of the sports Gala as it gives them achance as officers to have social interactions as it is one of the great things that improve one’s mental state.
“I want to thank you all for coming to be here with us, I feel honored to be part of this sports gala as it is one of the great things a human needs to improve one’s mental state.”
“It is also one of the great things in our line of work for it allows us to interact socially with each other and also that it shows us how we interact when we are at work”
This year’s sports Gala was running under the theme; Score and Win over drug and substance abuse to ensure and work with the government to end drug abuse in communities and the country as a whole.
In an interview with this reporter, ZPCS Provincial Spokesperson Nevson Tagarira explained the processes of the sports gala up to the last one where winners will be taken to Great Zimbabwe for tourism.
“The teams which will win at the Officer in Charge Sports Gala will proceed to compete at the Zonal OCSG and then proceed to the Officer Commanding Sports Tourism Gala where all ZPCS stations in Zimbabwe will be present”
At the end of the sports gala, everyone was declared a winner as a purpose to fight against drug and substance abuse.
