ZNA commends traditional leaders for promoting peace

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) hosted the traditional leaders day at Chief Chitanga’s homestead in Mwenezi this Friday, where they commended chiefs for their role in ensuring peace and security in the country.

ZNA Chief of Staff General Staff, Major General Kasirai Tazira who was the guest of honour said relations between traditional leaders and the army trace their foundation to the liberation struggle.

“We have been working together with traditional leaders since the time of the liberation struggle and up to today, we still work together well. Our traditional leaders are the custodians of our culture and values hence we call upon them to be on the lookout and teach our children the importance of our culture.”

Representing traditional leaders, Chief Chitanga appreciated the government for the Zunde Ramambo programme saying it has assisted communities in averting the impact of drought.

“We want to appreciate our ZNA for this programme and the work they are doing in our communities in ensuring development. Here in Mwenezi, they are currently establishing a clinic for us and recently they assisted in the construction of a school.

“Again, our government is supporting communities during this time of drought, especially through the Zunde Ramambo. We want to encourage them to continue giving food aid to communities until the drought period is over.”

Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira encouraged traditional leaders to be transparent in distributing food aid and ensure communities participate in all developmental programmes.

“Government recognises the importance of traditional leaders in ensuring community development. Right now our traditional leaders are at the centre of distribution of food aid. We are saying, let us be as transparent as we can such that no one will be left out and die of hunger. Government is implementing a number of developments in communities, let us encourage our people to participate and ensure improved livelihoods.”
