The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission & Distribution Company (ZETDC) has announced a comprehensive network rehabilitation exercise in the Midlands and beyond to address prolonged power outages in various provinces.
The affected provinces and areas include Midlands, Matabeleland North and South, Mashonaland East and Central, Manicaland, Masvingo, and Harare.
This initiative is a significant step towards improving power stability and restoring consistent service to impacted communities.
In Midlands Province, the exercise will cover several areas, including Gokwe North and South, Nembudziya, Mberengwa, Matibi, Mazvihwa, Zvishavane Rural, Gweru, Shurugwi, Mvuma and Chirumanzu.
“Affected areas include Netone Nyarupakwe Feeder,Sengwa Gorge Feeder, Mkoka Feeder, Netone Nyarupakwe Feeder, Nyengera Village, Hebron Garare, Mashingaidze-Masvingo Primary School, Bonda/Mutuvi, Batanai Mazorodze, Pambe, Rata-Shazhaume, Vutsanana, Mbuya Nehanda-Clinic & borehole, Zverenje, Beauty township, Siboza, Fizhol-NetOne Booster, Mapanzure clinic, Matobo Road, Lower Gwelo, Shurugwi-Riverdale,
Mwamuka, Shurugwi-Nursery Pump Rail Block, Lalapanzi-Kingleyvale Farm, Chirumanzu-Mushipe Village, Boroma Village, Machekano Village,” reads the statement.
The main reason behind the power outages is the “theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure, which has led to fallen poles and damaged equipment. Persistent damages from the previous rainy season put additional strain on our network,” reads part of the statement.
The ZETDC’s rehabilitation exercise aims to replace fallen poles, repair and replace damaged equipment, and address lingering damages.
“ZETDC is actively working to resolve these issues and has launched an exercise which involves: Replacing fallen poles, repairing and replacing damaged equipment that has been compromised by theft and vandalism.
Addressing all lingering damages from the recent rainy season,” furthers the statement.
The exercise, which commenced in March 2025 and is expected to run until November 2025, represents a significant investment of resources and the deployment of additional teams dedicated to ensuring the swift and safe restoration of power supplies.
“We sincerely apologize for the prolonged power outages and disruptions the customers in the affected areas have been facing,” said ZETDC in a statement.
Hence, the company urges customers to bear with it as it works to restore power supplies to their areas.
The rehabilitation exercise is not limited to Midlands Province, as other provinces will also benefit from the initiative.
In Matabeleland North, areas such as Nkayi, Lupane, Hwange, and Bubi will receive attention, while in Matabeleland South, areas like Umzingwane, Matopo, Beitbridge, and Gwanda will be covered. Other provinces, including Mashonaland East and Central, Manicaland, Masvingo, and Harare, will also have their areas addressed.
