The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) Southern region this Wednesday started to disconnect electricity supply for clients with outstanding balances as it moves to recover a total of ZWL$6.6 billion and US$7.1million.
ZETDC Southern region covers Gweru, Mvuma, Chivhu, Shurugwi, Zvishavane, Mberengwa, Kwekwe, Nkayi, Gokwe, Nembudziya up to Siyakobvu within the Zambezi Valley.
In a notice, ZEDTC announced a disconnection blitz for all defaulters which started on the 26th of this month.
“The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company ZETDC would like to advise its valued clients in the region that it is carrying out disconnection for clients with outstanding balances. To avoid being disconnected, clients are advised to settle their bills”, reads part of the notice.
ZETDC Southern Region, Commercial Manager, Dellar Zvinavashe Sibanda said 5% of all customers are still on post-paid arrangements and most of them are industries, mines and other commercial businesses.
“These post-paid clients owe ZETDC huge sums of money, as of today ZWL$6.6 billion and US$7.1million. We have notified them through a notice that we are disconnecting all defaulters,” She said.
Also, local authorities owe the power company huge amounts, but Mrs Sibanda said ZETDC have resorted to some other credit control measures against them other than the usual disconnections.
She added that small consumers of up to 100amp power supply were fitted with prepaid meters and those clients above 100amp are still on post-paid. #The Sun
