ZERA cracks down on Contaminated Fuel

By Savious Madanhire

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has issued a stern warning to fuel stations supplying contaminated fuel, following a series of raids that uncovered substandard petroleum products countrywide.

ZERA inspectors through the Petroleum Act [Chapter 13:22] and Petroleum (Fuel Quality) Regulations, have been conducting regular checks on fuel service stations and have identified several companies supplying fuel that does not meet industry standards.

“In a statement, ZERA stated that they are closing in on operators that are involved in the supply and retail of fuels that do not meet fuel quality specifications and released the names of 12 suppliers brought to book in the first half of 2024.“

Selling fuel which does not meet the quality specifications is an offence.

ZERA went further to urge motorists experiencing vehicle performance problems after fueling or refueling at any filling station to quickly contact ZERA to enable the Authority to take relevant samples from the concerned site for testing.
