Candidates vying for the Mkoba North Constituency seat are confident of victory in the by-elections set for the third of February.
The candidates are on the ground canvassing for support to take over the seat left vacant after the recall of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Amos Chibaya from the National Assembly by self-imposed opposition Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu who cited they have ceased to be party members.
Mr Edgar Ncube (ZANU PF Mkoba North candidate) said in an interview that Women, Youth and children are a very sensitive subject matter and he will put every effort to alleviate the general problems facing the people.
“Women and youths form more than 90% of the general population in the Constituency. I will be quick to say this group has been seriously marginalized by politicians and other administrators. I have no wish to please my sisters, mothers and sons/daughters with lies. I will be frank and say kind apologies for the oversight we have seen from yester years where there were high promises but no delivery,” he said.
Ncube said the country is reeling under oppressive illegal sanctions that have made employment very difficult for graduates and will lobby for programs that teach hand skills to mostly the youths and mothers.
“Skills to make detergents, soaps, lotions, and baking have since been started by ZANU PF through Cde Gondo and I would want to take it further to include Aluminum fabrication, Metal fabrication, joinery and woodwork, carpentry and roofing, welding, building, motor mechanics, farming and agronomy, sports, music and arts.
“These programs will go a long way to equip people with life skills that will make them employers and not job seekers. I will engage with the mining department to ensure that able-bodied artisan workers do get licenses to mine protecting them from bullies in the field. Sport is a very lucrative way to earn survival”, he added.
Democratic Official Party candidate Patrick Tayiya pledged to prioritize the vulnerable in society.
“My major focus is to ensure that youths get off the streets as I will create employment opportunities for them. I also want to create projects for women” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Amos Chibaya were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.#Thesun
