The commemorations of the International Anti-Corruption Day have reached advanced stage with the celebrations expected to take place in Gweru this Saturday.

The event which will be running under the theme “UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption,” will see people and organizations from various provinces gathering at the open space near OK Zimbabwe as citizens remain key in the fight against corruption.

In a press statement, The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has emphasized the need for all citizens to take part in the commemorations of International Anti-Corruption Day to show solidarity in the fight against corruption.

“Midlands Province was chosen following the establishment of ZACC offices, in line with the Government of Zimbabwe’s devolution agenda. ZACC calls upon the people in the Midlands Province and the country at large to join the Commission in Commemorating this day and to show the world that in Zimbabwe, citizens are united against corruption,” read the statement.

Last year the celebrations which were held in Masvingo were graced by Minister of State Masvingo province Ezra Chadzamira and are now being held in the Midlands province as ZACC has adopted a deliberate approach of rotating the International Anti-Corruption Day commemorations among the country’s 10 provinces.

The commemorations are therefore aimed at raising public awareness about these socioeconomic effects of corruption and encouraging the participation of stakeholders in the fight against the scourge of corruption.

It is a reflective moment for all stakeholders to take stock of the progress made towards the anti-corruption agenda globally as Corruption continues to be one of the governance challenges in Zimbabwe.

Corruption is entrenched in the political and socioeconomic spheres, and it is increasingly becoming a cultural attribute in public and private sectors. #The Sun
