SHURUGWI: At just 19 years old, A level student at Selukwe Chrome High School, Takura Karren Boroma has already made a name for herself in the boxing world, winning four medals in just a few years of career in boxing.
In an exclusive interview, Boroma shared her passion for the sport and her journey to becoming a champion.
“Being a female boxer is quite an experience but not all people understand boxing is a sport of discipline and a sport where you get exposure, literally you travel to different places.
“I have never thought of it but I see myself as a champion and empowering the girl child to do the right thing,” she said.
Boroma’s love affair with boxing began when she was in form three and her amateur career was marked by impressive wins leading to four medals.
“I started boxing when I was in form 3 and it’s been an incredible journey as I have competed in different weight categories and I have won some and lost some, but I have always gotten back up, stronger and more determined than ever,” said Boroma.
However, she will miss games to be hosted in Gokwe on 31 August 2024 due to other commitments.
“Boroma’s story is an inspiration to many young women in Zimbabwe, showing that with dedication and determination, anything is possible.
“As a role model for young women everywhere, Boroma’s message is clear”.
“So to the girl child, follow your instincts and prove to the world that you can do it no matter the hard shifts or stigmatization. They should follow their hearts and instincts in whatever, just like me I was exposed to boxing since I was a kid and ended up finding myself interested in boxing,” she added.
