A Gweru-based journalist, Yeukai Otilia Munetsi, has been honoured with the 2025 Youth
Impact Award for Advancing Human and Community Development in Africa in recognition of her exceptional work in promoting human and community development across

Munetsi stated that this achievement reflects the strength of impactful storytelling in transforming lives and advancing development across Africa.
“I was born and bred in Mogwero, and I feel truly honoured to receive this award. Not just because my name is on it, but because it symbolises the
journey of young people. It raising awareness and helping communities understand what is
happening around them, and why their participation matters. That is the work I am committed to, and that is where I am right represents the hard work young people are doing in their communities, work that often goes unseen and unrecognized.”
“For me, this award is an empowerment tool. It is a reminder to young voices in marginalized communities that someone is watching, someone sees your effort, and someone values your impact. That is what this award stands for in my life.”
She went on to explain how she does her work and where she does her work.
“The work I do includes article writing, community engagements and investigative
journalism in communities mining across Chirumhanzu district.”
“I also work in Lower Gweru. That is the heart of my work, and this recognition gives it even more purpose.”
“My work is rooted in promoting participation in local governance, social justice, and human rights issues. It’s not about fighting the government, but it is about now,” she added.
The List Awards are a high profile initiative by Identities Media, recognizing distinguished
citizens making impactful changes in various fields such as community development,
business, arts, media, science, sports, humanitarian efforts, and the arts.
These A-list awards aim to raise the bar for recognition in Zimbabwe and Africa,
comparable to the prestige of the Oscars in America. They wish to restore the integrity
and respect of awards which have become too commercialized at the detriment of the deserving women and men who work to impact our country and continent; therefore, their
winners receive a comprehensive package (subject to sponsors), including financial rewards.
The List Awards are more than an event but they are a celebration of extraordinary
individuals who have made significant contributions across various domains whose work
deserves to be elevated and highlighted through these awards.
