Water crisis sparks cholera fears in Maglass

A crippling water crisis has gripped Maglass area in Zvishavane sparking widespread fears of cholera outbreak with taps running dry as residents force to rely on contaminated water sources hence residents demands urgent action.

The persistent water shortages have left households struggling over basic chores, while unsanitary conditions continue to pose a public health risk.

Maglass resident Mrs Moyo said that the situation is getting bad and it is serious especially with children who uses pots it is a serious disaster which needs urgent action.

“We are in a dire situation this side and we are pleading with our council to take this matter as an emergency. I have grandchildren that I am staying with two of them uses pots when going to the toilet see, it is difficult since we do not have water hence we will end up making them do the second job in the road which is a bad thing.”

Council Chairperson Takarangana Keta said the water crisis was caused by an electrical fault which interrupted water pumping services.

“The water crisis we are facing right now was caused by an electrical fault hence no water was being pumped for the time being. We are trying by all means to ensure that pumping restores as soon as possible.”

As water crisis deepens in Zvishavane, urgent action is needed to prevent a full-blown cholera outbreak. Despite the odds Zvishavane’s community remains steadfast and are working together with the Council to find solutions to the problem they are facing.
