Ward 16 Clinic Project back on track after master plan Approval

By Richard Shumba

Ward 16 Councillor Philimon Mawere has announced a breakthrough in efforts to
establish a long-awaited clinic in Mkoba 18, following the successful approval of
amendments to the ward’s master plan.

The project had faced delays after the land initially earmarked for the clinic was
designated as an off-sale beer hall under the existing master plan.

However, Councillor Mawere confirmed that the planning issue has now been resolved,
clearing the way for construction to begin this year.

“This year, we are going to conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for the clinic in
Mkoba 18,” Mawere said.

He reiterated that the facility will serve residents from Mkoba 18 as well as
surrounding areas, including Mkoba 20, Paradise, and Woodlands.

Residents in these areas have for years relied on Mkoba Poly Clinic, which is located almost
CLR MAWERE 3 km away and has become increasingly congested.

Many patients have been forced to walk long distances just to access basic medication, a challenge the new clinic is expected to address.

Mawere further clarified that the Mkoba 18 off-sale beer bottle Store will not be demolished, as originally proposed. Instead, the ward has been allocated more than 2,000
square metres of land specifically for the construction of the clinic.

“With the resuscitation of Go Beer operations, we could not destroy the off-sale bottle store, as some Go Beer products will continue to be sold there,” he said.

The establishment of the clinic is expected to ease pressure on existing health facilities and
significantly improve access to healthcare services in Ward 16, marking a major milestone in the area’s development.
