More than 50 widows of War veterans and Orphans in Shurugwi received food hampers worth thousands of dollars during Heroes commemorations at Tongogara Heroes Acre.
Each beneficiary went home with food hampers which included items such as
Cooking oil, salt, rice, washing soap, mazoe orange crush, and bathing soaps to mention only a few, were donated by Professor Ambassador and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of River Valley group of Properties Smelly Dube.
An orphan from the late Andrew Manaka praised River Valley Group of companies for the kind gesture saying that they feel blessed to be remembered.
“We feel blessed to be remembered all the time by Prof Dube and Engineer Dr Dube time and again. They truly understand the struggles we face as orphans to the veterans. We are always grateful for what she has done and keep doing to us.”
Speaking to this reporter Amai Musagwiza wife to the late liberation war heroe Cde Shakespeare Musagwiza also commended Prof Dube for her patriotic work.
“We are filled with so much gratitude as widows of departed war veterans, we appreciate Prof Dube for her work because it shows us how patriotic she is.”
“We feel great knowing that we have her with us despite the absence of our husbands and may the almighty God continue to bless them for all they are doing for us.”
50 plus hampers were distributed to widows and orphans of war veterans also luncheons were being held for widows in Gweru at Steak n Chips on the very same day another grade 4 student was given a scholarship up until she finished her ordinary level.
Professor Smelly Dube said whenever she sees a girl child she sees the future that is one of the reasons why she is always there to support a girl child’s education.
“Whenever I look at young people I see future leaders and for one to have a good future she should have a good education. My heart is at good education especially for a girlchild because I know and believe that one day she will be able to take care of her parents after having the best education one can get.”
“Every year another year is added and I am happy that I can do something good each year through gifting widows and orphans.”
