Vice President Hon Col (RTD) Embodies Mohadi recently visited Dinson Iron and Steel (Disco) Manhize Steel plant in Mvuma, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting local industry and economic development.

In an interview after the tour, VP Mohadi was enthused by the production being done at Manhize.
“The Disco Manhize Steel plant was commissioned in 2022, and it has been in production for 3 years. They are doing wonders, and they are even doing beneficiation. The progress at the plant is a prime example of what the country aims to achieve with companies establishing themselves, driving production, and contributing to development.”
VP also stated that Zimbabwe is going to be a giant in steel production in Africa.
“We are going to be a giant in steel production, not only in the region but in Africa, considering the magnitude of this plant. We want companies to come to Zimbabwe, establish themselves, and do the production for the benefit of the country.”
During his closing remarks, Mr. Cheng Song, Chairman of Disco, stated that the company aims to satisfy local demand.
“We are very proud to be contributing to the country’s economic growth and industrialization. The collaboration between Dinson Group and Zimbabwe stands as a testament to the mutually beneficial cooperation between our two nations.”
Mr. Cheng went on to explain how the project has benefited people around as well as the project’s output.
“The project has already created about 2000 direct jobs. Scale is very, very immense, hence we started with an annual output of 600,000 tonnes in the form of products such as pig iron, rebar, wire, rods, steel balls, etc.”
Disco production is set to eliminate an estimated US$ billion annually on steel-related imports and strengthen the country’s economic sovereignty.
Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO), a subsidiary of China’s Tsingshan Holding Group, is developing the Manhize Steel Plant in Zimbabwe. The project, which began in 2022 with preliminary works, is a significant investment of US$1.5 billion. The plant aims to produce 600,000 tonnes of steel in its first phase, eventually reaching 5 million tonnes upon completion of all phases. The project is expected to boost Zmbabwe’s industrialization, reduce steel imports, and create numerous jobs. With its cutting-edge technology and commitment to excellence, Dinson Iron and Steel is poised to continue playing a vital role in Zimbabwe’s industrial growth.
