VBU in Lower Gweru, transforming lives of over 1,000households

THE government has commissioned a new village business unit (VBU) in Lower Gweru in a move set to transform livelihoods for previously marginalised communities as the country moves towards attainment of an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

The VBU, which comes with a solarised borehole and a nutritional garden, will benefit over 1 000 households from five villages who were in dire need of a clean source of water.

“We are so grateful to the government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. We were worried about our livestock, but we are now relieved knowing that the cattle can have drinking water nearby,” a resident said.

“We now have an opportunity to develop nutritional gardens that will earn us some money, many thanks to the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa,” another added.
The government reassured communities of its commitment to the inclusive development approach.

“These solarised boreholes illustrate the Second Republic’s strategic development approach that recognises the need to mitigate and galvanise communities from the effects of climate change.

Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, the rural-urban divide is becoming a thing of the past,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said.

Over 100 Village Business Units have since been rolled out in the Midlands province as the Second Republic seeks to sustain agricultural activities and ensure food security, beginning at the household level.
