In an important step towards fostering safety measures and creating a respectful workplace, Unki Mines General Manager Walter Nemasasi led workers in signing a “Keep It Safe Day Pledge” aimed at reinforcing the commitment of the workforce to prioritize safety, well-being, and zero tolerance for gender-based violence, as well as harassment.
This initiative is a proactive measure to ensure that all workers at the mine are dedicated to maintaining a secure, safe environment for themselves and their colleagues.
The “Keep It Safe Day” pledge is prominently displayed on a Pledge Wall erected at Unki Mines and will stand as a constant reminder, a promise to uphold safety protocols and to treat each other with dignity and respect.
In a heartfelt speech during the ceremony, Valterra Platinum’s Head Business Transformation Mr. Stephen Bullock emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to creating a workplace that is not only safe but also inclusive and respectful.
“As Valterra Platinum, we are unconditional in our mission to ensure a working environment where every individual feels valued and secure,” Bullock stated.
He further reinforced the company’s zero-tolerance policy by declaring, “No colleague will be violated or harassed under our watch.”
The pledge emphasizes several key principles that align with the values of Unki Mines and its stakeholders.
Among them is the commitment to SLAM “Stop, Look, Assess, and Manage” in managing risks in daily operations, fostering a culture of safety.
The pledge also highlights the importance of mental health, urging employees to be mindful of their own well-being and that of their colleagues.
This holistic approach to safety not only focuses on physical conditions but also considers the mental and emotional health of all team members.
Additionally, the pledge aims to promote a sustainable environment where every employee feels included, regardless of their background.
“Today, we take a significant step in ensuring that every voice is heard and every person is treated with respect.
“We want to cultivate an atmosphere of support and encouragement,”Mr. Nemasasi remarked during the event.
