The Chimurenga music legend Thomas ‘Mukanya’ Mapfumo is set to perform a once in a lifetime show dubbed the Peace tour on the 7th of December in Gweru.
Music fans are eagerly waiting for the music icon to perform his stellar performances that live many eating at their palms of their hands, leaving no doubt the province will be reignited on the historic day.
Show organisers, Republic Entertainment Spokesperson, Max Mugaba said Mapfumo will first perform in Gweru before he conducts his eight day nationwide tour.
The Gweru show is expected to attract more than 5 000 audiences on the day. “We want to attract more than 5 000 people to the show and we assure you that there will be tight security to protect the crowd. We are confident Mukanya will put up an amazing performance on the day. He has new offerings and Gweru will have a chance to be the first to see him perform,” he said.
“Mukanya and his 15-member band are synonymous with quality and we expect thousands of fans to attend. The show is not only about promoting peace and a chance for the Chimurenga guru to meet his fans, but also to domestic tourism,” he said.
Tickets will be selling for US$10 and five artistes have so far applied to collaborate with Mukanya. Mapfumo will perform in Masvingo, Bulawayo, Kariba, Mutare, Victoria Falls, Beitbridge, Kadoma and winding up in Harare on the 21st of December.
The music legend will again perform another exciting performance since his first show in Gweru in over a decade after he last performed at Educare college. Mapfumo, whose songs comment on socio-political issues in the country went on a self-imposed exile in the United States in 2001 claiming his family could be harmed by the then Zanu PF government.
