Stakeholders invited to Unki Mines IRMA Assessment

Shurugwi based Platinum mining giant, Unki Mines in conjunction with the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS global services) is inviting local community members, workers, and other interested parties to participate in the environmental and social performance assessment of Anglo American-owned mine between 1 and 5 August 2022.

The assessment will be carried out at Unki Mines in Shurugwi, by the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS global services) applying the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) standards
IRMA’s Standard for responsible mining defines good practices for what responsible mining should look like at the industrial scale.

According to a public notice placed in the press, all stakeholders will have an opportunity to assess and comment on the mine’s activities which include community and stakeholder engagement, community health and safety, water management, preservation of cultural heritage, air quality, cyanide management, mercury management, human rights due diligence, planning and financing reclamation and closure of pits.

“All stakeholders are invited to submit a written comment to SCS on the environmental, and social performance of Unki Mines, comments from the various stakeholders should focus on the performance of the Mine compared with the IRMA standard.

“To register, submit questions or comments, or request to be interviewed as part of the assessment process, one can log onto,  https://info.scsglobalservices.com/irmafeedback.

Comments are kept confidential upon request.

“It is also important to note that, interviews with local stakeholders will be scheduled to coincide with the onsite assessment and maybe virtual (telephone or video conference) or in person taking into consideration Covid-19 precautions,” reads the notice.
