Recently promoted to the Central Region Division One, Shurugwi United is making bold promises to its supporters of competitive top-flight football as preparations for the upcoming season intensify.
The emergence of Shurugwi United brings relief to the football-loving community in the mineral-rich town, which has experienced a drought of professional football since the demise of Nichrut FC in 2018.
Before the club’s formation in 2024, local fans primarily followed amateur competitions, but they now have high hopes for their new team.
Inspired by successful teams such as FC Hunters, the first team has been diligently training since December.
Player William Mandebvu expressed an optimistic outlook, stating, “We have been training intensely for over a month now. The morale and coordination within the team are remarkably high. We fear nobody, and we are ready to fight when the season starts.”
Shurugwi United FC Coach Eddmore Phiri echoed this determination, declaring the club’s championship ambitions.
“As Shurugwi United FC, we are declaring our intentions to compete for the Central Region Division One League title. We are in it to win, with the ultimate goal of securing promotion to the premiership.”
As the countdown to the start of the Central Region Soccer League begins, excitement is building among Shurugwi’s football supporters.
