Sheasham Football Club has taken over Mkoba based Chipembere Queens in a deal that will see the latter taking over the responsibilities of promoting the female club.
Sheasham will have full proprietorship of the club whilst the City of Gweru will second two officials to be part of the club’s executive.
Sheasham president Clever Mandaza said the decision to adopt the club was based on his organization’s love for sport and the development and empowerment of the girl child.
“Sheasham and the city of Gweru have had a long-standing relationship since 1993. Both institutions share a passion for football considering it to be the noblest of all sports, the partnership between these two entities is premised on the shared love for sport.”
“Football can play a role in making the girl child exemplary. According to the agreement which was signed on April 16 this year, the Mayor of the Gweru will remain the team’s patron and will hand over Chipembere Queens to the club with immediate effect.
The mayor of the city will remain the team’s patron and the local authority will hand over and relinquish the franchise of Chipembere Queens to the club with immediate effect and upon signature of this memorandum of understanding.”
“Chipembere Queens will be renamed. Sheasham Gweru Queens accordingly. The existing players of the team will be transferred to the club. The Club is at a discretion to assess the players before award a contract to each player.”
The local authority has pledged to avail its health facilities for use by the team when the need arises. Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko applauded Sheasham for taking over the club saying new chapter for under the patronage of Sheasham
The club is playing in the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League (ZWSL), the country’s elite women’s football league.
