Schools close for second term, but no holiday for exam classes

The second term of the school calendar is done and dusted with learners who braced the chilly winter to attend lessons, excited to be taking a break.

At Gandavacheche Primary School in Gokwe North, learners gathered for the final assembly of the term, a moment filled with mixed emotions.

For many, the end of term signals the joy of a well-earned break, but also a touch of sadness at parting ways with classmates and teachers.

“I am happy that I have passed, I am going to enjoy my holiday,” a learner said.

Despite all the fun, the situation is totally different for examination classes.

“We must continue studying because we will be writing exams soon,” a student noted.

The government is also aware that it will be business as usual for examination classes.

“We have already released a circular saying that those writing exams should continue with classes because there will be no time since they will be starting to write soon,” the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo said.

As schools close for the term, most learners bid farewell to their teachers and friends until the next term. But for those in Grade 7, Form 4, and Upper 6, the holidays offer little rest — it is full steam ahead toward exam season.
