The “Sahwira Mukuru” hitmaker Baron Leon Mkweza, popularly known as Majesty from Senga Nehosho in Gweru, opened up about his music journey, inspirations and vision for the future.
In an exclusive interview, Majesty explained, “As an artist, I am inspired by real-life situations, day-to-day lives and I try as much to connect my emotions to real-life inspirations.”
“Sahwira Mukuru” is a testament to this approach, which is a song Majesty dedicated to his friend Matemai, hence making it a beautiful tribute to loved ones.
“I wanted to make a song to show love and appreciation to our loved ones, be it a parent, family member, or friend. I was even dedicating it to my friend Matemai.”
Majesty added that his songs contribute to Zimbabwean music growth as they are respectful and relatable to the public.
“It does to a greater extent, I sing songs that are respectful and relatable to the general public of Zimbabwe”
Despite facing challenges such as breaking through the audience market and getting music to larger audiences, Majesty remains committed to his craft.
Majesty went further to share how he met fellow artist Qounfuzed and how he has been instrumental in his growth.
“We met on Insta, he came across my song Unozvigona so he wanted to have a remix with me because he loved the song, and we had a lasting relationship, as I became a fellow artist working with him on a lot of collaborations and productions as well. He taught me to get things done myself and to be self-reliant because he is hard working himself and motivates me a lot in that criteria.”
With upcoming collaborations with Qounfuzed, and Nutty O whilst Delroy and Michael Magz are still under discussions, Majesty’s future looks bright.
“My goal is to inspire people, touch people’s lives, spread love and comfort people, be it locally and internationally,” he said.
Majesty shared his words of advice to aspiring local artists, “Working hard, being self-sufficient and believing in yourself is the key.”
