In a poignant display of gratitude and community spirit, members of the Rotary Club Harare have come full circle donating generously to their former School Muwunga and Sandara Primary School in Gweru last week.
This selfless act underscores the club’s commitment to education and giving back to the community after 45 years, the former students remembered the school’s standards and thought they could give back.
One of the donors who is the President of Rotary Club Harare, Ndakaripa Marbel Hungwe said there is a personal connection that is added to the donation and testified of the values instilled to them by Muwunga as they grew.
“This donation adds a personal connection to me specifically because I became who I am today through the values that were instilled in me by Muwunga Primary School.
In Rotary, different months are given different themes for example last month was a membership month and this month is a basic education and literacy it also binds with World Literacy Day. In Rotary we have realised that basic education is important to take people out of poverty and also to build a literate society.”
Hungwe also enlightened that it was not their first time doing such an initiative but rather a norm within the Rotary Club.
“We have also given books to farm schools which are reallyin need of books to kids in townships last week we were in High Fields givingbooks to High schools in High Fields and this time we decided to come to my hometown Gweru and also provide books to our young children which allow them to beliterate kids.”
Rotarian Faneliso Mukaro emphasized the importance of amixed school, as it gives children competition to aim higher and challengeothers.
“I had a boy in our class who would cry due to me having a higher mark than him that felt confused until my grandmother explained to me. She told me that I was challenging the boy and that made him cry.”
The Rotarians were disappointed by the number of students found at one school which makes it difficult for every learner to get a book hence this generous contribution aimed to support the educational needs of the students.
The SDC chairperson Obert Mukwanda gave his special thanks for the donation of books as he is a passionate reader and encouraged the students to be literate while giving a small lesson he learnt in life.
“Life is what youmake it, life will never make you, if you want to succeed in life you have towork hard for a better tomorrow.”
