Gweru Residents and Ratepayers’ Association (GRRA) has urged the newly elected councillors to focus on urgent challenges affecting the city as it continues
to grapple with a typhoid outbreak that has affected thousands.
GRRA chairperson Mr Cornelia Selipiwe (PICTURED LEFT) said the MDC-run council has a daunting task to improve service delive
ry in critical areas such as water provision and refuse collection, which will reduce the prevalence potential outbreak of diarrhoeal diseases.
“We expect the mayor and councillors to hit the ground running,” he said. “Currently, the city is faced with a typhoid outbreak which requires concerted efforts from all sectors so that it can be contained. We expect to work together with the council as it spe
arheads improvement of services such as water and refuse collection.”
Mr Seliphiwe said the council should engage with residents when crafting next year’s budget.
