Tendai Chifunyise, editor of The Sun Newspaper is no more. With deep sadness and heavy hearts, Tendai left this world on the 20th of March, 2024, in Harare.
She was laid to rest on the 22nd of March 2024 in Darwendale in Mashonaland West at her family farm. Sis Tindo as many preferred to call her, was surrounded by her loving family in Harare as she peacefully transitioned to eternal peace.
Sis Tindo was born on the 23rd of November 1984 in Makoni District, Rusape and is the second born to Gogo Elizabeth Madzinga.
Her behavior was evident because she grew up in a close-knit family that instilled values of respect, kindness and hard work.
From a young age, she exemplified an unwavering determination to positively impact the lives of those around her.
Tendai’s education journey led her to Bamba Primary School in Rusape before proceeding to Inyati Mine Secondary School in the same district.
She later did secretarial studies and subediting at The People’s College. With intellect and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, she embarked on a career journey that combined passion and expertise to create meaningful change.
She devoted her professional life to The Sun in 2012 as a sub-editor and later excelled to become the newspaper’s first female Editor and is credited for spearheading the Community Newspapers of Zimbabwe’s other investment drive which include, Bulawayo Citizen, Kadoma News, and The Bluegate Family Leisure Center in Mkoba 6 Shopping center.
Tendai’s unparalleled dedication, creativity and exemplary leadership made her an esteemed figure amongst her colleagues. Beyond her professional endeavors, she was a cherished friend, relative and beloved member of the community.
She had an infectious smile that could brighten even the darkest of days and a gentle demeanor that made everyone feel at ease. She was an active member of MISA Zimbabwe, VMCZ, ZUJ and Gweru Press Club who selflessly dedicated her time to improve the lives of the voiceless.
Chifunyise’s ability to connect with people on a deeply personal level was truly remarkable and had a gift for lending a listening ear, providing words of encouragement, and offering sage advice all of which were instrumental in profound friendships that impacted countless lives.
Her kindness, compassion and empathy knew no bounds and she has left an indelible impression of love on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her husband Richard, a daughter Doreen, a son Richard jr, her mother and siblings. Although her physical presence will be profoundly missed, her spirit and legacy will continue to inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves.
Tendai’s memory will forever live on through the remarkable mark she left on this world and the countless lives inspired.
A memorial service will be held on a yet-to-be-announced date and location in Gweru where friends family and loved ones can come together to celebrate her extraordinary life.
Tendai Chifunyise you will forever be remembered as a beacon of light and an exemplar of compassionate humanity.
