OK Zim closes Gweru branch

Albert Andiseni-Mashingaidze

OK Zimbabwe, has shut down its Gweru CBD outlet citing the unavailability of electricity and fuel for generators.

According to workers at the supermarket, ZETDC switched off electricity on Saturday for non-payment of bills.

OK Zimbabwe recently announced it would shut down Robson Manyika, Glen Norah, Kuwadzana Express, Mbare (all in Harare), Chitungwiza Town Centre, and Entumbane (Bulawayo) because of the current harsh economic environment.

Vendors who operate outside the supermarket, expressed disappointment at the closure, saying it has not only disrupted their business but has inconvenienced members of the public in need of essential goods.

ZESA spokesperson Dr George Manyaya declined to comment on the issue, saying it was against the company’s policy to disclose clients’ private information to the public.

OK Zimbabwe officials refused to comment on the issue, referring questions to the company senior managers who were unavailable when going to press. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW

  1. OK is a public company, it should have a general.meeting of shareholders and disclose what is happening, it seems there is a lot happening behind the scenes,
Rivalry supermarkets are doing well and very busy, If you go to a food market in Greendale you see the difference of good management of a shop comparing with what we see in some these supermarkets.

  2. Ok Zimbabwe applies business policies different other retail shops. Initially people were unaware of how this shop was robbing customers of their hard earned cash through high, funny exchange rates. Now that people know how the shop cheats they no longer visit this shop.
Why is it that other shops have full shelves eg pick and pay, Mohammed, Food world etc. Let owners of ok examine themselves. Don’t take people for granted. Very soon, these shops will be full not by Ok but by other willing new owners
