NetOne has officially joined the Daisy Walk Clean-Up Campaign in Senga, Gweru, enhancing community efforts under Zimbabwe’s National Clean-Up Program, which is spearheaded by His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
The partnership was launched on June 5, 2026, as volunteers gathered for the monthly clean up, held on the first Friday of each month.
This national initiative encourages all citizens to take personal responsibility for maintaining clean, safe, and healthy communities.
The Daisy Walk Clean-Up Campaign is a grassroots environmental initiative that extended its reach to Gweru last year.
Its founder, Itai Daisy Mutinhiri, explained that the decision to focus on Gweru stemmed from her personal connection to the city.
In an interview with this reporter, Itai Daisy Mutinhiri expressed her deep commitment to environmental issues, stating, “I’m passionate
about environmental issues, and I started the clean-up campaign a few years ago.”
She added, “I chose Gweru because I studied at Midlands State University for both my undergraduate and master’s degrees.”
Mutinhiri emphasized that the initiative aligns with global development goals, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on creating sustainable cities and communities.
She celebrated the strong community response, concluding, “The clean-up was very successful, and I’m happy that people came.”
The Gweru edition of the campaign has attracted residents, students, and local stakeholders who participate monthly to clear litter and raise awareness about waste management.
Organizers described the community response as “very successful,” noting an increasing sense of local ownership of public spaces.
Ruth Mandaza, a visually impaired resident, encouraged everyone to participate in the National Clean-Up campaigns each month, regardless of their disabilities.
She stated, “Cleaning our city is important, and we hope to continue with this initiative.
Disability does not mean inability, and therefore it should not stop us from cleaning our city.”
With NetOne’s involvement, the campaign has gained significant corporate support.
Through this partnership, NetOne aims to promote environmental sustainability, advocate for proper waste management practices, and contribute to improved public health.
This collaboration directly supports the strategic goals of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritizes sustainable development, environmental protection, and citizen well being.
Additionally, the initiative advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by fostering cleaner, safer, and more livable urban environments through collective action.
The Daisy Walk Clean-Up Campaign plans to continue its monthly clean-ups in Gweru and is actively working to expand its efforts to other towns and cities.
Daisy Mutinhiri and her new partners at NetOne have called on schools, businesses, and residents to participate in future clean-ups and help make environmental stewardship a community habit.
