Murderer mistakenly hands self to police

Tsitsi Marange

‘Rinamanyanga hariputirwe’ this Shona adage took precedence in Gokwe where a man mistakenly handed himself to the police in an attempt to mislead a murder investigation.
Desire Mangena (22) who was on the police wanted list for killing Leopold Muchana Moyo on June14 2018 following an unexplained misunderstanding in Redcliff, thought himself a criminal mastermind.
Mangena using the name Admire Sibanda went to Gokwe police Station to make a false report that he was robbed and assaulted with machetes after boarding a Toyota wish from Kwekwe to Gokwe.
Soon after filing his fake report, Mangena was referred to Gokwe Hospital for medical attention as he had serious injuries.
Following investigations, the police discovered that information supplied by Mangena was false and in actual fact he was the actual offender in a murder case.
As fate would have it, Mangena was arrested for the murder case and he later confessed to committing the crime as well as implicating his accomplices Timothy and Dion who are still at large.
Acting Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident and urged members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the other two suspects linked to this heinous offence to report to any police station or make use of the suggestion boxes near them.
