MPH donate refuse bins to GCC

Blessing Nduku

In a bid to extend its impact beyond traditional healthcare services, Midlands Private Hospital has donated refuse bins to the City of Gweru, reinforcing its commitment to community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

The donation marks a significant step in the hospital’s broader vision to play a more active role in promoting public health through clean and safe environments.

The donation, part of a broader corporate social responsibility initiative, aims to promote proper waste disposal in key areas of the city.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Matron Joyce Sibanda, representing Midlands Private Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to supporting community health beyond its facility walls, which was also a practical step towards addressing the city’s growing waste management challenges.

“We are proud to donate these bins to the City of Gweru as part of our commitment to improving.

This partnership is more than symbolic and by promoting proper waste disposal, we are protecting the very environment that sustains public health.

Gweru Mayor Cllr Martin Chivhoko hailed the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of how private institutions could complement local authority efforts in service delivery.

“This thoughtful contribution will significantly enhance our waste management efforts, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for our residents.”

The bins will be strategically placed in high-traffic areas to curb littering and instill a culture of cleanliness among residents.

Beyond the donation, Midlands Private Hospital called on residents to actively embrace the campaign, saying the effectiveness of the programme depended on community participation.

Clean surroundings mean fewer outbreaks of diseases. We invite everyone to take ownership of this initiative so that together we create a healthier Gweru.

The development highlights an emerging trend where private sector players are increasingly plugging gaps in urban service delivery by contributing resources to complement stretched municipal budgets.

The MPH is a member of the Private Hospital Association of Zimbabwe.

In July 2015, the hospital was regraded and was given an “A” Grade in the hospital classification system. Dr J. Tayi is the owner and operator of a private surgery and is the covering doctor for the Midlands Private Hospital. Mrs J. W. Tayi is the General Manager for the Hospital. Sister S. Mzungwana and Sister N. Mare are ward managers in charge of all patients, while Sister J. Sibanda is the Matron in the theatre and in charge of supporting staff. N. Mathe is the Critical Services Manager of the Medical sector of the business.
A total of 22 Doctors have admission rights to the hospital, and of these, there is a Specialist Physician, Surgeon, Dentist, Gynecologist and Physiotherapist who all render their services to admitted patients of the hospital.

Environmental stability and public health. The donation by Midlands Private Hospital reflects a growing recognition that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls into the communities it serves.

By supporting clean and healthy surroundings, the hospital is fostering a culture of responsibility and partnership in a public health setting, a strong example of how private institutions can complement municipal efforts for a cleaner, healthier Gweru.
