Funds raised during the Midlands Provincial Independence ball valued at USD 35 000 were used to purchase food hampers for rural and mission hospitals across the province, with Honorable Owen Ncube, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands Province, heading the donation drive.

The donations which included 110 bags of mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, soap and salt were officially handed over by Hon Ncube to eight District Hospitals representatives during the handover ceremony at the Government Complex in Gweru.

Hon Ncube praised the community’s enormous support, which raised USD 35 000 towards charity.

“I wish to applaud the Midlands community for its enormous support towards our 2025 fundraising dinner which raised USD35 000 towards charity which aligns with the Second
Republic’s Social Protection Programs that include Assisted Medical Treatment Orders, Harmonised Social Cash Transfer,Food Deficit Mitigation Program and School Feeding
Program among many others.”

“However, today’s event which has become an annual occasion on our Provincial Calendar, fulfils the firm commitment I made on 11 April 2025 during our Midlands Provincial Independence ball held at the Village Lodge,Gweru, that donations in cash and kind realised during the charity dinner would be channeled towards the disadvantaged members of our community which include orphanages, old people’s homes, the elderly in communities, Prisons and Health institutions that admit patients,” added Hon Ncube.

Additionally, the philanthropic occasion of the handing over of 110 by 50kg bags of mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, soap and salt to all 8 District Hospitals, Kana,Driefontein, Mnene and Zhombe Mission Hospitals as well as Zvamavande and Chikwingwizha clinics, was guided by the New Dispensation’s development mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Muchekeza, Provincial Medical Director for Midlands, expressed her heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Honourable Ncube for his kindness and recognition of rural hospitals.

“The donation will undoubtedly go a long way in enhancing the capacity of rural hospitals to provide quality healthcare to their communities. By supporting these healthcare facilities, Minister Ncube’s initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all citizens, particularly in rural areas.”

“Furthermore, this donation will significantly impact the delivery of healthcare services in these areas, enabling hospitals to address some of their pressing needs,” she said.
