ALL is now set for the 45th Independence Celebrations to be held in Gokwe Nembudziya today, with government confirming the completion of key utilities for the successful hosting of the national event.
Zimbabwe has recorded yet another milestone when it marks 45 years since attaining independence.
At a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare this Tuesday, government stated the progress on key projects that have been implemented in Gokwe Nembudziya.
The Uhuru celebrations are also breathing a new lease of life for Gokwe North and South districts after major rehabilitation of the road networks.
In remembrance of the heroes and heroines who sacrificed for the liberation of the country, government has implemented projects in their honour.
Other key cabinet highlights include a plan by government to intensify the use of clean energy, with a target to connect three million households by 2030.
According to the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable July Moyo, the roadmap will target at least one million houses within the first year of implementation.
This plan dovetails with an Energy Compact blueprint approved by cabinet, which seeks to achieve universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable electricity by 2030.
Meanwhile, police in Midlands have beefed up security ahead of the 45th Independence Day Celebrations which will be held in Gokwe for the first time since 1980.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed their readiness.
“It is a very special year to the Midlands Community since the province will be hosting Independence Celebrations at Mutora Growth Point, Nembudzia in Gokwe North.
“In this regard there shall be road shows advertising the celebrations across the province. It should be taken to note that Independence Celebrations 2025 will run concurrently with Easter Holidays.
“We wish to send a stern warning to lawbreakers across Midlands Province that we will be firm on ground patrolling and arresting criminals. Road carnage and lawlessness is mostly attributed to consumption of intoxicating substances such as alcohol and drugs.”
He said the police were committed to ensuring safety of road users, citizens and visitors to the province through heavily deploying members and officers on road patrols.
“We shall also carry out crime awareness campaigns that are aimed at educating communities to be wary of criminals in residential, commercial and rural areas.
“Generally our message in fighting crimes against properties is; all residential places or residents should have someone present at all times,” he said.
“The public is also informed that a number of activities will be undertaken by police in the same effort.
This includes community relations officers who will be carrying out traffic and crime awareness campaigns, law enforcement deployments and patrol deployments in business communities, residential areas and highways.”
Mahoko also called on all adult citizens to carry out their holiday activities responsibly and avoid drunken driving, violence and gender-based violence as usually saying lives are lost over avoidable situations.
