Learners in Mberengwa District have received a much-needed boost through the government’s School Feeding Programme, which aims to combat child malnutrition, improve school attendance, and alleviate poverty among school going children.

The district-level launch of the programme took place on Friday at Zvemagwiro Secondary School, where both parents and pupils welcomed the initiative, saying it could not have come at a better time.

“Most children would come to school without anything to eat because most homesteads were struggling to make ends meet due to the drought, so the programme is turning things around. The situation has improved, and we are grateful,” a learner said.

“With this feeding programme, students are going to concentrate better in their school demands.”

“We are also doing chicken farming and we cleared out some 500 chickens. We are also going to do fishery and poultry projects as the idea is to sustain to eradicates poverty in schools,”
