Masuku champions investment in Midlands agricultural sector

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Anxious Masuka has highlighted Midlands Province’s impressive cattle production ranking second among Zimbabwe’s ten provinces.

With this achievement, the minister has been urging investors to tap into the province’s potential by investing in leather production

During a recent Investment program held at a local lodge, Minister Anxious highlighted the Midlands’ impressive cattle production statistics, which position the province as a key player in the national livestock industry.

“The Midlands is not just a hub for cattle farming it is a cornerstone of our economy. With our abundant pastures and skilled farmers, we have the potential to lead the nation in leather production,” he stated, emphasizing the need for investment in value-added industries.

The minister’s call for investment comes at a crucial time, as the province has seen a decline in its cotton production rankings.

“While we have historically been a leader in cotton, we must acknowledge the challenges we face and work collaboratively to revitalize this sector,” Minister Anxious remarked.

He urged stakeholders to explore innovative farming techniques and sustainable practices that could enhance cotton yields and quality, thereby restoring the province’s standing in the national rankings.

In a positive development for the region, the minister also announced that the Kwekwe silo construction project is now 97% complete.

This state-of-the-art facility is designed with advanced ventilation systems, enabling it to store grain for an impressive 10 to 15 years.

“This silo will not only enhance our grain storage capacity but will also play a crucial role in ensuring food security for our communities,” he explained.

The new facility is expected to significantly reduce post-harvest losses, providing farmers with a reliable means to store their produce and stabilize market prices.

Minister Anxious emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, farmers, and investors to maximize the potential of the Midlands’ agricultural sector the minister’s vision has resonated with local farmers and business leaders, who are eager to explore the opportunities presented by the leather production sector.
