In a shocking scene that left Gokwe residents dumbfounded, a 37-year old Gokwe man died after being attacked by unknown assailants after a drinking spree.
Marcus Mbizo (37) of Mubvumbi Village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe went to Gokwe Centre with his friend to sell some vegetables.
It is alleged that when they returned home, Mbizo went to Muchakata Business Centre till next day morning.
After the drinking, Mbizo left for his home and while he was some metres away from his homestead, it is also alleged that his wife heard him crying for help, lying on the ground bleeding from the nose. He then took him to their homestead.
It is further alleged that Mbizo told his wife that he had been struck on the face with an unknown object by unknown people who robbed him cash amounting to $36 but was not interested in reporting the matter to the police.
Days later, he returned to Muchakata Business Centre and drank beer.
It is said that, around 2200, Mbizo’s neighbours heard dogs barking and went outside to see what was happening.
They found Mbizo lying on the ground, sweating and frothing from the mouth; they carried him to his house where he died.
The matter was then reported to the police who attended the scene and Mbizo’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Acting Provincial Community Relations Officer, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende is appealing to those who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects who are involved in this offence to make a report to any nearer police station or make use of suggestion boxes nearer to them.
