A Gokwe man, Polite Ncube (26) was brought before the Kwekwe Magistrate Court after he was caught in possession of two live black cobra snakes and was fined to pay US $200.
In a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, it is said that Polite Ncube was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of USD 200 after being caught in possession of two live black cobra snakes.
He was charged with contravening the Parks Wildlife Act which is removing any animal or any part of an animal from any land or from one place to another on any land, was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of USD200 or face a four-month jail term in default of payment.
”It is stated that the accused was intercepted by Police Officers on a patrol in Kwekwe, was searched, and was found with two black cobra snakes in his satchel.”on the 25th of March 2024 at around 0300 hours the accused person was intercepted by Police Officers who were on patrol in the Central Business District of Kwekwe.
The police officers searched the accused person’s satchel leading to a recovery of two black cobra snakes.In court, the accused said that the snakes were given to him by his grandfather as roots that grew to become snakes which he uses to heal people.
“The accused person told the court that the snakes were given to him by his grandfather as two short roots that grew to become the snakes in question which he uses to heal people.
After the snakes were taken away from him, he said that he would reunite with them when he got back to his homestead in Gokwe. Despite the forfeiture of the snakes to the State, he said that he will be reunited with them when he gets to his homestead in Gokwe. #TheSun
