A Gweru man has been arrested for severely assaulting his pregnant wife accusing her of refusing to terminate the pregnancy.
Knowledge Ganyiwa (24) who resides of Cliffton Park appeared before Magistrate Ms Beaulity Dube facing one count of domestic violence.
Ganyiwa pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to January 18 for continuation of trial.
Ganyiwa’s wife Ms Amanda Sibanda (26) testifying told the court that her husband assaulted her because he wanted her to terminate her pregnancy of which she denied.
With bandages covering her mouth and right eye, Ms Sibanda said her husband had used a brick and a hoe to assault her.
“He came home around 1:30pm and started shouting at me as he was angry that I had not aborted my pregnancy. I told him that I was not going to terminate the pregnancy and that didn’t go down well with him and he became violent and started assaulting me with a brick. He took a hoe and also assaulted me,” she said.
It is the state case that on January 12 at around 1:30pm, Ganyiwa allegedly came home from the shopping centre and started shouting at his wife demanding to know why she had not terminated her pregnancy.
The court heard that Ms Sibanda told her husband that she wasn’t going to terminate the pregnancy.

Ms Sibanda sustained a deep cut on the upper lip, deep cut left ear and a cut on the right leg.
