Gweru Mayor Councillor Josiah Makombe has raised the Gweru flag high at the Local Authorities Leadership Appreciation Night, organized by the Zimbabwe CEO Network which recognizes local authorities’ important contribution to the Zimbabwe businesses space.
Mayor Makombe who is also the UCAZ president was honoured with an award for Outstanding Leadership from a Mayor at a ceremony held in Harare recently.
The award was a special recognition for the ability to have reached heights of excellence and have maintained that level of performance and attitude over the long haul.
In an interview after receiving the award, Councillor Makombe said he was elated to represent Gweru at such a prestigious award ceremony.
“I am happy and humbled to receive the award. This award is for the people of Gweru and it’s stakeholders who have been supportive to make sure that the city moves forward. As such, we need to maintain the standards and level of service delivery that we are having as of now, as well as doing it much better,” he said.
He said the award is a challenge for the council to do more.
“As a council, this award challenges us to do more on service delivery, accountability and governance issues.
“We need to make sure that the recognition of my good leadership is felt by the residents through the provision of potable water, timeous removal of refuse and making sure that the roads are being maintained so that people see change and appreciate the recognition,” said Mayor Makombe.
