THE Midlands Park housing scheme in Zvishavane, which is being spearheaded by the government, is taking shape and is targeted to benefit over 1000 families.
Under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the government has prioritised the provision of affordable and modern houses, recognising housing as a basic need.
It is in this vein that the government through the Public Service Commission in partnership with the First Mutual Life Assurance Company are finishing the construction of 156 residential and 504 students’ apartments in Zvishavane at a cost of US$29 million.
“I am impressed with the current level of development in Zvishavane. If we look back a few years ago, things were not moving, but we are now on the right track to transformation,” a Zvishavane resident said.
“Things are changing at a faster speed daily, and I hope that the developmental pace continues on that path. I want to commend the government for accelerating infrastructure development,” another added.
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, who toured the project, indicated the initiative signifies the government’s commitment to avail shelter to all and propel the country towards attaining an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
“This is a clear manifestation of the fulfilment of the pillar relating to infrastructure and utilities as we journey towards Vision 2030.
The structures show that the government, under President Mnangagwa, walks the talk in terms of infrastructure development.
As Midlands province, we are on course to make sure that decent housing is given to all,” he said.
The initiative is poised to significantly impact housing availability in the country, aligning with the national target to deliver one million housing units by 2030.
