Latest on Gamu’s shooting at Bensam Flats

A popular Gweru socialite Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30) and her alleged boyfriend were shot dead over their involvement in Peter Dube’s wife suspected infidelity.

Dube (35) who is reportedly on the run, also shot and seriously injured his second wife Nyasha Nharingo (31) and her sister Nyaradzo Nharingo (34).

Midlands Police spokeswoman Mrs Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident that happened at Benson Flats in Gweru and said investigations were still under way.

“However, she could not confirm or deny an internal memo doing rounds on social media on the circumstances surrounding the case.

According to an unconfirmed memorandum seen by this reporter, police are investigating two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder which occurred at room number 11 Bensam Flats, Main Street, Gweru.

Peter Dube and Nyasha Nharingo are husband and wife whilst both deceased persons are boyfriend and girlfriend. The deceased Gamuchirai Mudungwe is said to be a friend to Peter Dube’s wife Nyasha.

On the 22 April 2021 at around 1100 hours deceased persons and the two sisters went to Masvingo collect Nyaradzo’s passport. Peter got wind that the four had gone to Masvingo without his knowledge and this did not go down well with him since he was suspecting infidelity.

At around 2000 hours, he armed himself with an unknown type of firearm and went to number 11 Benson Flats Main street, Gweru where Nyasha resides.

He is allegedly to have accused Nyasha of having an affair with deceased number one only identified as Shelton and an altercation ensued which prompted  Peter to go downstairs and shot Shelton who was seated at the driver’s seat of a Toyota Hiace Registration number AFI 0969 silver in colour once on the head, and he died instantly.

He went upstairs and met Gamuchirayi on the entrance to the flat and shot her once on the chest and she died instantly.

Peter proceeded to the flat where he shot Nyasha on the neck and her sister Nyaradzo on the head and both sustained serious injuries before disappearing in the darkness.

Peter’s young brother Advance Dube and Justina Nomatter Chawana who is the accused’s first wife witnessed the incident went to the police and made a report.

Residents at Bensam Flats are forced to use the back entrance as Gamu’s body lay on the front steps and police has blocked part of Main street leading where Shelton’s Kombi is parked.

When The Sun news crew visited the crime scene hundreds of people were still gathered and the two bodies were yet to be taken to the mortuary.
