In an event that left Shurugwi residents in unquenchable shock, a landlord was recently arraigned before the courts for vehemently beating and insulting her tenant for overusing electricity.
Silvia Chivetedze 30 residing at number 65 Makusha appeared before Shurugwi resident Magistrate Sangster Tavengwa facing two criminal counts of Insult and assault as defined in sections 95 1a and 89 1a of the criminal codification and reform act chapter 9:23.
Prosecuting, Bertha Bore told the court that, on July 9 at number 65 Makusha Silvia Chivetedze insulted and assaulted her tenant Benhilda Chipengo 32 after the two had a heated argument over an electricity bill.
Chivetedze demanded an extra $2 from Chipengo to pay for electricity noting that she was the one using more power at the house since she use an electrical jug to heat her bathing water. Chipengo told her landlord that she had no money, but Chivetedze could not take no for an answer, she then insulted Benhilda using the following words, asi unohurira mahara, muroyi wemunhu.
The complainant ignored Chivetedze and proceeded to a nearby bathroom with her bathing water, the accused followed the complainant whom she struck with a log on her left shoulder and also slapped her once on the left cheek.
Magistrate Tavengwa adjourned the case to July 3 for sentencing
