Kwekwe Greens Mall commissioning boosts infrastructure growth under NDS2

The Second Republic’s infrastructure modernization initiative is gaining momentum, with Kwekwe emerging as a significant beneficiary of private sector investment under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

On Saturday, the Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Owen Ncube, commissioned the new Greens Shopping Mall.

This development is anticipated to transform the retail landscape of the mining town and advance the national modernization agenda.

The project represents a notable shift for Kwekwe, which has traditionally been known for mining and steel production, towards diversified economic growth and improved urban infrastructure.

Residents have welcomed the development, noting enhanced access to modern services and increased employment opportunities.

“It is a massive, modern project that presents our community in a positive light, bringing us closer to other parts of the world,” remarked one resident.

Another added, “This development is long overdue. We now have access to modern shops and services locally, which also means more employment opportunities.”

The multi-million-dollar facility, developed by a local investor, is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, while stimulating business activity in the Midlands Province, in line with Vision 2030 targets.

A representative of the Makombe family, owners of Greens Mall, stated that this investment demonstrates confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic outlook.

“We are contributing to infrastructure development, job creation, and improved access to quality retail services. It also shows that the economic climate is favorable.”

The government has described the development as a clear indicator of the success of policies under NDS2, which prioritize infrastructure development, private sector participation, and decentralized economic growth.

“Today’s event underscores the Second Republic’s development mantra that ‘nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ and highlights the New Dispensation’s commitment to creating a conducive investment climate that promotes private sector-driven infrastructure development, digitalization, technology transfer, and job creation under the leadership of His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as the nation moves toward Vision 2030,” said Senator Ncube.
