Khulani Khumalo installed substantive Chief Madliwa

Nkayi – Mr Khulani Khumalo has been installed as substantive Chief Madliwa in the Nesigwe area of Nkayi in Matabeleland North Province.

The installation ceremony, attended by family members, community leaders and government officials, was marked by celebration and expressions of unity within the community.

“I urge all of us to respect and support our new Chief. This should come from the joy we are experiencing today,” a family spokesperson said during the ceremony.

The Chief’s Council, which played a key role in the selection process, confirmed that the decision followed extensive consultations with the Khumalo family.

“We held three separate meetings with family representatives, and they were unanimous in their choice of the rightful heir. We are therefore satisfied with the appointment of Chief Madliwa,” President of the Chief’s Council, Chief Mtshane Khumalo said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, Honourable Richard Moyo, reiterated the government’s support for traditional institutions.

“The Government of Zimbabwe is aligning the Traditional Leaders Act with the Constitution and is committed to ensuring that traditional leaders are appointed substantively. Chiefs are not just custodians of culture, but also vital players in local development.”

Born on April 27, 1974 in Nkayi, Chief Madliwa, who is married with six children, did his primary and secondary education in Nkayi and then worked in Bulawayo and South Africa.
His chieftainship covers nine local authority wards in the area with a total population of almost 36 000 people.
