In a landmark decision, Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has resolved to rehabilitate and upgrade the strategic Kadoma-Sanyati-Nembudziya road under the Nhimbe/Ilima road rehabilitation program.
The upgraded road will enhance access to markets for cotton farmers in the Midlands, particularly Gokwe, improve cotton transportation, reduce logistics costs, increase competitiveness, boosting agricultural productivity and economic growth.
With the road upgrade, Gokwe will attract tourism and revenue growth, economic activity and job creation will increase, and infrastructure and services will improve.
Hosting national celebrations in Midlands Province demonstrates the government’s commitment to leaving no one and no place behind.
Minister Felix Mhona, leading the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, will oversee the project.
Nick Mangwana last posted the development on social media:
“Excellent news! The Kadoma-Sanyati-Nembudziya road upgrade will transform the region’s economy, benefiting cotton farmers and positioning Gokwe as a national events destination. This strategic upgrade will cement Zimbabwe’s position as a hub for agricultural production, trade, and tourism, driving growth and prosperity for generations to come.”
Meanwhile, Government has so far completed the reconstruction of 30km of the 43km Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road following an agreement with a local construction company, Road Trackers Construction (RTC).
The contract included construction, upgrading and widening of the road which links Beitbridge Border Post with Gweru, Kwekwe, Chegutu, Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Karoi and Chirundu Border Post.
Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road holds significant economic prominence as an accelerator to the growth of the Midlands provincial Gross Domestic Product.
The 30km stretch has since been opened to traffic while efforts are being made to complete the 13km that is left.
