The International Cultural Diversity Carnival took place at Midlands State University on May 13, bringing together nations, artists, and thousands of attendees.
The event was attended by Midlands Province Deputy Director Mrs. Viola Mwale, who represented the Deputy Minister
for Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Emily Jesaya.
Speaking on behalf of Deputy Minister Jesaya, Mrs. Mwale praised the carnival as a vital platform for uniting different cultures under one roof.
She stated, “Events such as this remind us that despite our different backgrounds, we share a common humanity that must be celebrated and preserved.”
The carnival attracted approximately 2,000 people and featured diplomatic representatives from countries including Cuba, Tanzania, Iran,
Japan, and China, each showcasing their cultural heritage.
Artistic performances were presented by students from Midlands State University [MSU] ,Bindura University, Great Zimbabwe University, Senga Primary School, and international participants from Japan and Zambia, among others.
The diverse program highlighted traditional music, dance, and theatrical expressions.
Various cultures, represented by their respective embassies, displayed traditional artifacts throughout the venue, including beadwork, textiles, carvings, and ceremonial pieces.
The official program took place in the Great Hall, where speeches and performances were conducted, while exhibitions were held in the cultural village located in the other wing of the hall, allowing attendees to view artifacts up close.
The day’s events concluded with a Mr. and Miss Carnival competition, which celebrated poise, cultural pride, and creative expression
among the participants.
Mrs. Mwale’s presence, as she stood in for Deputy Minister Jesaya, underscored the ministry’s commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and celebrating global diversity.
Her attendance affirmed the government’s support for events that unite local and international communities through the arts.
