Inspiration and education at ZWB breast cancer awareness luncheon

The Zimbabwe Women Bureau hosted a highly anticipated breast cancer awareness luncheon drawing a record of fifty attendees last week Friday at Pastry Master Restaurant in Gweru.

Breast cancer has affected millions worldwide but with education and awareness the fight against it can be won.

Sister Chanda a health expert delivered a poignant presentation highlighting the symptoms of breast cancer and debunking common myths.

“Breast cancer affects not only women but also men” “Early detection is crucial in saving lives,” she added.

Sister Chanda’s impactful presentation shed light to symptoms of breast cancer, treatment options and support services.

She emphasized that the breasts are a sensitive part of the body and need attention.

“Your breast needs to be checked every three months to see if there is a lamp, painful or any liquid that is coming out. These are some of the symptoms of cancer.”

Breast cancer survivors shared their courageous stories of resilience and hope.

“As a survivor l can say l every cancer patient needs support. I will say if you want chemotherapy do chemotherapy do not mix the traditional herbs. Though chemotherapy is painful but it is worth it.” ZWB’s Executive Director, Chiedza Harunashe emphasized the organization’s commitment to breast cancer awareness and education.

“We urge everyone to prioritize breast health, support research, and advocate for policy changes that promote early detection and treatment.”

“As ZWB Breast cancer has now become a disease that is attacking every woman in our country. So, in support of those who passed away, the survivors, and also those suffering with cancer hence we have come together on this day to support them so that they share their experience.”

Zimbabwe Women Bureau (ZWB) is a national membership private voluntary organization (NGO), that was formed in 1978, with the main goal of promoting, socio-economic rights of women in Zimbabwe.

ZWB is a registered by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare as a PVO (W.0.45/78) and has a membership of 25 000 across 35districts of operation.ZWB is member of National Association of Non-Governmental Organization (NANGO), Women Alliance of Business Association in Zimbabwe (WABAZ), Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ), FEMNET, and La Via Campesina. It is a founding member of the Grassroots Women’s Network, a grouping of prominent PVO’s that work with women in communities around Zimbabwe.

ZWB empower women through training, support in entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business development.

It further promotes sustainable agriculture, food security, climate change through support and trainings.

Support small scale women farmers through capacity strengthening/building, seed and animal fairs, natural resources and environmental management, climate change awareness and adaptation, homestead development, food processing and value edition and support with agriculture inputs.

The event was organized by ZWB in partnership with Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Women’s Coalition in Zimbabwe (WCoZ), QUAPAZ, Anglican Church, ROSSA and Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).

The ZWB Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon was a testament to the power of community, education, and inspiration.

The event highlighted the importance of early detection, support and research.

Let us continue to work together towards a future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease.
