A powerful rainstorm swept through Ling field High School on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The boarding hostel at Lingfield High School was severely damaged, forcing the urgent relocation of 22 students to Mbali Lodge in Lundi Park.
At approximately 3:45 PM, heavy rain and strong winds hit the school, causing significant structural damage to the hostel.
Windows shattered, roofs were torn off, and debris scattered across the school.
“I was in my room when I heard a loud crash,” said Mukudzei Zvimba, a 16-year-old student.
“The wind was howling, and water started pouring in. We were scared, but the teachers acted fast.”
School authorities quickly assessed the situation and sprang into action.
Emergency services were alerted, and students were evacuated to the school’s auditorium.
“We prioritized student safety above all,” said Mr. Svondo (The School Headmaster).
“Our staff and emergency responders worked tirelessly to ensure everyone’s well-being.”
The 22 displaced students were relocated to Mbali Lodge, a facility equipped to provide temporary accommodations.
Food, clothing, and emotional support were provided to the students.
Mbali Lodge has been incredibly supportive,” said the Headmaster Mr Svondo.
“We’re grateful for their assistance during this challenging time.”
Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into the damage and implement repairs to ensure the hostel’s structural integrity.
The 22 relocated students are safe and comfortable at Mbali Lodge, with school staff and counselors providing support.
