A man living in the streets of Gweru central business district (CBD) tragically lost his life after being stoned to death while sleeping on the verandah of an abandoned building with his wife and two children.
Midlands Provincial spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Forget Nsingo, whose age was not disclosed, was reportedly killed while sleeping on a shop veranda during the night of November 10, 2025.
The incident unfolded after an earlier disagreement with a friend, identified only as Terrence, while the two were drinking alcohol.
According to the police, the deceased returned to the shop veranda where he had been sleeping with his wife, Rufaro Savanhu, 22, and their two young children, aged four and three.
The following morning, Savanhu awoke to find her husband unresponsive, lying in a pool of blood.
Authorities from ZRP Gweru Central attended the scene, discovering that Nsingo had sustained severe head injuries.
The left side of his head was deformed, and a blood-stained stone weighing approximately five kilograms was found near his body, insinuating foul play.
Inspector Mahoko has reached out to the public for help.
“Anyone with pertinent information regarding the incident should contact the Gweru Central police station or the nearest police post.”
In light of this unfortunate event, he emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and the necessity of respecting human life.
The ZRP continues to investigate this grievous incident, with the community in Gweru remaining on alert as they await further developments in the case.
