The Gweru based Hodzeko Arts and Culture Association Board has suspended its chairperson Noreen Mutera on allegation of gross abuse of office and serious breach of trust
The decision was revealed in a press statement issued by the information and publicity manager Dumisani Ndlovu who stated that Mutera’s suspension was effect from the 23th of October this year pending a hearing and a final resolution.
The board said Mutero had failed to act in the best interests of the association through communicating every business deal she did in the name of the association.
“Our position is very clear, we are disturbed by the performance of Hodzeko and we are of the opinion that the suspended board member is not competent enough to lead the association and has defaulted on her responsibilities to inform the board of critical and important resolutions which have a material impact on the financial position of the association, reads the statement.
Ndlovu said the board was trying to make the Association a good and fair environment for everyone to work in.
“The board tried to be lenient by suspending her inviting pending a hearing, under normal circumstances after failure to abide by the association constitution and procedures on such matters as engaging in MOU’s, contracts and using the name of association to mobilize resources for her personal use without the approval of the board, leads to automatic termination since this is a serious breach, he alleged.
Ndlovu added that Mutero failed to demonstrate her capability to lead due to conflicts of interest which we established had a backup from our local arts office.
“In order to revive and come up with a turn-around plan, the association made this bold decision which only materialized after intervention of National Arts Council head office Audit and Compliance Manager, Mr Isaac Chitando in 2019,”he said.
