KWEKWE-based Hardrock Football Club has unveiled its soccer kits for the upcoming Premier Soccer League season at a colourful ceremony held in the City of Gold this Saturday evening.
The glitzy event marked a significant milestone for the Premiership newcomers, who revealed three kits that will be used during their maiden campaign in the top flight.
Nicknamed the Golden Boys, Hardrock FC say their journey to the Premiership has been anything but easy, describing their promotion as the culmination of vision, persistence, and passion.
Club spokesperson, Charles Chahwanda, said the unveiling symbolises the fulfilment of a dream that began as a simple idea.
“We are here today as part of a great journey that commenced as an idea. The passion of our President to nurture football has seen us come this far. We are happy because our promotion to the top-flight action coincides with the completion of our stadium, meaning there will be PSL action in Kwekwe after a long dry spell,” he said.
Hardrock Football Club Chairperson, Wellington Mupandare, assured supporters that the team is not merely participating in the Premiership but intends to make a meaningful impact.
“We are happy that we are now in the PSL. The journey was quite bumpy, but today we are here. What I want to assure the people of Kwekwe and the nation at large is that we are here to bring out our best as we have made some serious acquisitions of players for this season,” he said.
The government also offered words of guidance to the club as it embarks on its Premiership journey. Speaking at the event, Honourable Owen Ncube urged players and administrators to remain disciplined and focused.
Quoting Brazilian football legend Pelé, he said: “Celebrity status arising from being part of the beautiful game of football, if not properly managed, may signal the downfall of many a player and football administrator.”
He encouraged the club to remain grounded and strive for consistent results in their debut season.
The ceremony also featured an auction, during which Kwekwe businessman Mr Clifford Makiwa purchased a Hardrock FC kit for US$25 000, underscoring strong corporate and community backing for the club.
The Golden Boys will use the recently constructed Chahwanda Stadium as their home ground, marking the return of Premiership football to Kwekwe after a prolonged absence.
Hardrock FC’s unveiling event not only showcased their new identity in the top flight but also signalled the city’s renewed presence on Zimbabwe’s elite football stage.
