The City of Gweru emerged as the winner of the Best Zimbabwean Local Government Exhibit category at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), standing out in a highly competitive environment.
This prestigious award recognizes Gweru’s innovative showcase of its local industries, investment opportunities, and community projects, which impressed judges and visitors alike.
Speaking to this reporter, the City of Gweru spokesperson, Vimbai Chingwaramuse, didn’t have much to say but was happy with the award. “We are happy about the recognition,” she said.
The city’s exhibit at ZITF highlighted the services they offer as a local authority, including water and sewer infrastructure.
They also showcased products from key strategic partners, such as Go Beer products, WackDrive properties, and distributed flyers from major companies driving the economy of Gweru.
In terms of investment opportunities, the City of Gweru is calling on investors for several projects, these include upgrading the water treatment plant at Gwenhoro Dam to cater to the growing population of 150,000 (up from the original 40-50,000 capacity).
Other opportunities include a Waste to Energy project that harnesses biogas from sewer systems to produce electricity and a quarry mine lying idle with 3.2 million cubic meters of potential, currently seeking investment or partnership.
This award is a testament to Gweru’s efforts in promoting its development and investment potential.
